To Eliminate Gasoline Mixing and to Stop any Fraud Cases
H.E. the Minister of Commerce and Investment, Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al Qassabi, inaugurates, on Sunday at the Ministry’s headquarter, the electronic system for inspecting and calibrating the fuel pumps, which aims to increase the Ministry’s supervisory & control role on fuel stations by raising the transparency level, relevant to the services provided to consumers, and by eliminating any commercial fraud cases.
Meanwhile, MCI pointed out that this service would facilitate the inspection and calibration of the fuel pumps electronically for the owners of petrol stations, through easy steps to be followed via the website fis.mci.gov.sa.
The location can be sent through GPS, then the inspector would visit the station and make the necessary inspection and calibration to ensure the safety of the fuel pump, in terms of the correct meter readings and the quality of fuel provided to the consumer. This electronic service comes within MCI initiatives for the realization of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, in cooperation with its strategic partner, Thiqa Business Services Co.
MCI explained that upon completion of the inspection and calibration process, the inspector will put the label of the test result on all pumps in the station. Thus the station owner can obtain the relevant certificate electronically via this system.
The Ministry pointed out that in cooperation and partnership with the Saudi Standards,Metrology and Quality Organization, this decision will be implemented gradually within two phases, first by obliging the new stations to inspect and calibrate their fuel pumps as of 11.08.1438 AH, and make it available and optional to the owners of the existing stations, in order to reach the best results within the first phase. Second, the system will be implemented in obligatory way on all new and existing stations, whose licenses expire after 01.01.1439H.
In order to ensure high quality service provided to the consumer, the Ministry has been keen to apply the best methods and modern practices to develop this system, by working on the privatization of these services, and assigning them to private sector’s laboratories. MCI has been keen as well to make the citizen a partner in the control and inspection of the petrol stations, by enabling him, in the next phase, to report and lodge complaints against any relevant violations.
MCI calls on the owners of the petrol stations to visit the service website
fis.mci.gov.sa for submitting their applications to get the necessary certificates, and to access FIS Program within its optional phase.
