MCI Confiscated More than 12 Thousand Products with Forged Guarantee
As a continuation of the Control Rounds, and the detection of fraud and cheating in the consumers products which are made in some commercial and industrial institutions, MCI had closed the second location, a factory southern of Riyadh, which deliberately used the sponge waste to produce spongy mattresses and pillows bearing fake medical allegations. They used to put forged warranty on the products. During the raid, it turned out that there was no external sign to show the name and the activity of the factory. Therefore, those involved were summoned for investigation and taking the legal procedures against them.
During the raid, the Control Teams detected the foreign labors manufacturing pillows with normal polyester and alleging that they are medical, as well as overstock products in the site, and lacking of the necessary requirements for safety, including extinguishers and fire-fighting system, with poor level of cleanliness, order and tidiness, the spread of foul odors inside the factory which is used as housing for workers who cook their food inside as well.
The total quantities that had been seized and confiscated from the factory included more than: 12500 items, 2000 pillows, 9600 mattress bags imprinted on them the words “Medical Mattresses with Five Years Guarantee” , in addition to 600 not ready mattresses, and 300 ready ones.
It is worth mentioning that MCI had detected, during a raid carried out recently by the Control Teams in southern Riyadh, a warehouse located in Al Faisaliah run by foreign labors who collect old sponge and cotton from houses containers and municipal dump and they re- outfitted them for making pillows of different sizes bearing the brands “Turkish” and others " USA " then they are marketing them as new and imported from U.S.A., large quantities were confiscated inside the warehouse, which had been closed later, and those involved were summoned for investigation and applying the regulation, and the referral of the violating labors to the concerned authorities .
It was found out during the raid carried out by the MCI Control Teams with the participation of the Joint Security Campaign on the violating warehouse that the labors who ran it were working for their own account, as well as the warehouse was irregular and did not carry licenses or outside sign, as well as the sponge and the materials used were contaminated because they came from the containers.
MCI emphasizes that it will continue its Control Rounds on the warehouses, factories and commercial institutions, to ensure their regular work, and the absence of fraud and manipulation on consumers, and to stop exploiting the demand for purchase in selling and marketing any counterfeit or adulterated goods.
It also stresses that it will not tolerate in imposing penalties on violators and those involved in the practice of fraud and all that put the health and safety of consumers at risk.
